Current temp in Iqaluit: -9°F/-23°C. Current temp in LA: 70°F/21°C. Hope the passengers didn’t wear shorts. Apparently an engine malfunction led to an automatic in-flight shutdown of one engine.

Don’t worry. They’ll just leave the pax on the plane for 14 hours. They’ll be plenty warm.

Steam coming out of their ears?
Actually Iqaluit is building a much bigger new terminal, expected to be finished this year (and with capacity for international flights):

Technically yes, but they will defrost approximately 1000 years in the future, so it’s not that bad.

Yep just the current 80s soviet inspired terminal AFAIK.

Image getting Kinjad is probably a good feature, unless you have eye bleach handy. It’s yellow. VERY YELLOW.

I guess so it can be seen against the snow? Also, looks WAY better than literally every soviet airport I’ve been to (at least 6...).

Always looked to me like some sort of Soviet Arctic research station, but apparently I’ve badly overestimated Soviet architecture. Probably right about the color - the new one is fire engine red, so you may be on to something.

Be on the lookout for the follow on Antonov to bring in the replacement GE-90 if they have to do a full replacement.

It’s nice this time of year! Well, when the sun is out... for the 45 min or so it’s out now....

They played it off as being the closest airport, but the passengers were having Nunavut.

The are bringing in a replacement aircraft - showing as LX7002. Was surprised about talk of the Antonov as First Air has an L-100 and AC runs GE90s on its 777s, but after checking doesn’t look like a GE90 would even come close to fitting in a Hercules.

Is the Antonov the only aircraft that can carry one of those? Other than a C-5 or a C-17?

that’d suck.

Pretty much. You can separate the fan case from the core, but it is still huge.
